How Often Should Storefront Windows Be Cleaned?

Foot traffic, road dust and sprinkler spray decide the rhythm — not the calendar. How to pick a cadence your storefront can actually keep.

The short answer

Most St. George storefronts land on fortnightly or monthly for the exterior glass, with the entry door cleaned more often than the rest. High-traffic businesses — food, fitness, medical, anything with a lot of children through the door — are usually closer to weekly on that entry.

Offices without public footfall are a different story and often do fine quarterly. The mistake is treating a retail suite and a professional office as the same problem because both are "commercial".

What sets your frequency

  • Foot traffic. Hands on glass is the fastest-accumulating mark on any storefront, and it is concentrated at the door.
  • Proximity to a road. Traffic film builds quickly on a suite facing a busy street, and it is greasier and more stubborn than ordinary dust.
  • Irrigation. Landscaping right up against the frontage is common in Southern Utah retail, and overspray leaves mineral spotting that a routine wash will not shift once it establishes.
  • Which way you face. West-facing glass takes low afternoon sun straight through it — and low sun shows every mark on the pane.
  • Your customers. A dental office and a tyre shop have different expectations of what the front glass looks like.
  • Construction nearby. Changes everything, for as long as it lasts.

Picking a cadence

CadenceTypically suitsWhat it keeps on top of
WeeklyFood service, fitness studios, medical and dental, anything on a main roadHandprints and traffic film before customers notice them
FortnightlyMost retail suites and salonsThe usual buildup, with the entry staying presentable throughout
MonthlyLower-footfall retail, showrooms, service businessesDust and overspray before they establish
QuarterlyProfessional offices without walk-in trafficGeneral accumulation on glass nobody is touching

A very common arrangement splits the two: entry glass weekly or fortnightly, the wider frontage and any interior glass monthly or quarterly. That puts the money where customers actually look.

The entry door is the real problem

If you only fix one thing, fix the door. It is the piece of glass every customer stands directly in front of, at eye level, usually while waiting a moment for someone to come the other way. It collects handprints on both faces at a rate nothing else in the building comes close to.

It is also the cheapest thing to keep right, because it is one pane. Plenty of our commercial clients have the door and sidelights done on a tight rhythm and the rest of the glass much less often, and the storefront reads as well-kept because the part people actually meet is clean.

Why regular costs less than occasional

This is not a sales line, it is how the work behaves. Glass cleaned on a rhythm never accumulates anything that needs special handling. Glass left for six months in this valley picks up mineral deposits that need treatment rather than washing, and traffic film that takes real effort to cut.

So the occasional clean is not simply "the same job, less often" — it is a harder job each time. On top of that, recurring commercial work carries better per-visit pricing than one-off calls. What moves a cleaning quote covers the underlying factors.

Setting it up

Tell us your trading hours, your quiet days and what the frontage actually looks like, and we will propose a rhythm rather than sell you the most frequent option. We work early mornings, evenings and quiet weekdays as a matter of course.

Common questions

How often should storefront windows be cleaned?

Most St. George storefronts do well on a fortnightly or monthly exterior clean, with high-traffic businesses — food, fitness, medical, anything with children — closer to weekly on the entry glass. What decides it is foot traffic, how close you are to a busy road, and where the irrigation lands.

How often should office windows be cleaned?

Offices without public foot traffic generally need far less than retail — quarterly on the exterior is common, with interior glass on a similar or slightly longer rhythm. The exception is ground-floor glass facing a parking lot or a main road.

Do you clean before opening hours?

Regularly. Early mornings, evenings and quiet weekdays are all normal for us, and for a storefront the point is that customers arrive to clean glass rather than to a crew working around them.

Is it cheaper to clean often or to wait?

Per visit, regular is cheaper. Glass on a rhythm never needs catch-up work, and mineral spotting never gets long enough on the pane to need treatment rather than washing. Waiting converts a routine clean into a restoration job.

What about the inside of storefront glass?

Interior glass usually needs less than the exterior, but entry doors are the exception — handprints accumulate on both faces at the same rate. Most recurring commercial plans do the entry inside and out every visit and the rest of the interior less often.

Can you work around our trading hours?

Yes, and for most retail that is the whole point. Tell us your hours and your quiet days and we will build the schedule around them.
